AmaZulu FC will open their 2017/18 Absa Premiership campaign against Free State Stars on Saturday, 19 August 2017.
The encounter is scheduled to take place at the King Zwelithini Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal’s largest city, Durban.
Usuthu, who are back in the top flight, have had the edge over Ea Lla Koto in their last four Absa Premiership encounters.
We look at the last four league matches between AmaZulu and Stars:
24 November 2013 | Stars 1-1 AmaZulu
Usuthu got off to the best possible start as they took the lead just five minutes into the match at the Goble Park Stadium during the 2013/14 season.
Njabulo Manqana played a good cross for Ayanda Dlamini, who headed past Stars goalkeeper Daniel Agyei to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu.
Unfortunately, Stars grabbed a late equalizer in the 79th minute as AmaZulu defender Carlington Nyadombo netted an own goal.
The Zimbabwean defender headed past his own goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe while trying to make a clearance and ultimately, the two sides drew 1-1.
5 April 2014 | AmaZulu 2-1 Stars
AmaZulu opened the scoring in front of their supporters at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the 2013/14 season second round league clash.
Once again it was Ayanda Dlamini, who broke the deadlock for Usuthu when he headed home S’fiso Hlanti’s cross to make it 1-0 to AmaZulu in the 29th minute.
Usuthu began the second-half brightly and Ruzaigh Gamildien fired home a first-time effort to make it 2-0 to the home side just a minute into the second-half.
Ea Lla Koto managed to grab a late consolation goal in the 80th minute through the late Richard Henyekane and AmaZulu ran out 2-1 winners.
22 October 2014 | Stars 0-0 AmaZulu
AmaZulu slightly dominated their encounter with Stars at the Charles Mopeli Stadium during the 2014/15 campaign.
Usuthu striker Bongani Ndulula had the best effort on goal in the first half – forcing Stars goalkeeper Glenn Verbauwhede into a good save in the 34th minute.
The Belgian shot-stopper pulled off late saves to deny AmaZulu duo Kulegani Madondo and Philani Shange in the second-half – ensuring that game ended in a 0-0 draw.
4 April 2015 | AmaZulu 1-0 Stars
AmaZulu, who were looking to continue their good form, welcomed Stars at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in the second league clash of the 2014/15 campaign.
Usuthu dominated the first-half, but Bornwell Mwape and Bongani Ndulula could not find the back of the net and the score was 0-0 at the interval.
The home side deservedly took the lead through Mbulelo Mabizela just 10 minutes into the second half.
The defender hit the back of the net from a rebound to make it 1-0 to the home side. AmaZulu managed to contain Stars and they emerged 1-0 winners.Share
