Former DRC captain Bukasa Kasonga has applauded his Under 18 squad for their fantastic display and gutsy performance which they displayed at the Engen Champ of Champs finals this past weekend at Marks Park in Johannesburg.
Although they conceded the title to Cape Town’s Ubuntu FC 1-0 in the final the 40-year-old coach believes Usuthu represented the KZN region well throughout the entire three-day tournament.
AmaZulu topped Group B which consisted of Chippa United, Pixely United and Mariveni United.
‘’I told my boys that we can go very far in the tournament, all we needed was belief and hard work to make it far and we eventually did.’’
‘’It wasn’t easy, considering the weather conditions but I am really proud of them and how they behaved themselves,’’ he said.
The 40-year-old former Usuthu defender also says that the experience has been one for the books and that they can only improve from here onwards.
‘’Making it to the final was a dream come true for myself and the team, we surprised a lot of people, we managed to beat teams such as Chippa United and Bidvest Wits. We have a really good quality team.’’
‘’The experience was a really fruitful one for myself personally as a coach and an even better one for my team, it’s always good to gain experience by participating in as many tournaments as possible and be in different environments,’’ he concludedShare
