AmaZulu get their 2019/20 Absa Premiership campaign underway with an encounter against Bidvest Wits at the King Zwelithini Stadium this Saturday.
After a tough pre-season which saw the team enjoy camps in Johannesburg and the KZN North Coast, coach Cavin Johnson says his charges are ready to hit the ground running.
“It is a new start for us, we have to go out there and start the season well,” Johnson said.
“We enjoyed our pre-season, all the games we played was of a high quality. In training we managed to do a lot of work regarding tactics, improving our technique and getting a better team out,” he added.
Johnson says his squad is settled with only two new recruits in familiar face, Lehlohonolo Majoro and New Zealand born attacking midfielder, Andre de Jong joining the team.
“The team is looking good, Andre and Major have fitted in well and I am excited to see how they work together,” Johnson said.
AmaZulu beat the Clever Boys 2-nil in March, but Johnson says one cannot look too much into that result.
“This weekend is big, we know Gavin Hunt normally starts well, he starts with a bang, his players would have come back from Bafana Bafana by now and they will be ready,” Johnson said.
“We expect a tough fight, they were not title challengers for nothing last season, we have to fight again at home, we have to ensure we improve on how we have done in the last two years,” Johnson concluded.Share
