AmaZulu FC defender Mbongeni Gumede feels that the team has done fairly well in the Absa Premiership.

Usuthu were held to a 1-1 draw by Orlando Pirates in a league game which was played in Johannesburg on Saturday night.

This was AmaZulu’s sixth draw in the elite league having also recorded three wins and three defeats.

“Well, we started the season quite well. We managed to win our first league game which was against Free State Stars,” Gumede said.

The KwaZulu-Natal giants are placed 12th on the league standings. They are three points behind seventh-placed Cape Town City.

Usuthu and City will clash a league game at the Cape Town Stadium on Friday. AmaZulu will move back into the top eight if they defeat the Citizens.

“I don’t think we need to put any unnecessary pressure on ourselves,” the former Pirates defender added.

“Because we are coming from the National First Division (NFD), people thought we would struggle.

“But we have done fairly well in this league. We must treat each game like a cup final,” he concluded.

The match between AmaZulu and City will kick-off at 20h00.
