AmaZulu recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory against Vasco da Gama in their National First Division clash on Sunday in Kwa Mashu, a game in which veteran striker Siyabonga Nomvethe scored on debut.
While Nomvethe made his debut for Usuthu following a transfer from Moroka Swallows, his partner in attack was South African junior international Dylan Stoffels – who was later replaced by Zambian Bornwell Mwape.
It was Marc van Heerden who opened the scoring with a left footed piledriver after 23 minutes. And he turned provider for the second goal, crossing to Namibian Petrus Shitembi to head home.
The home side went into the break 2-0 ahead.
In the second half, Shitembi won a penalty and Nomvethe stepped up to convert. With a goal on debut, ‘Bhele’ was then taken off and replaced by another debutant in Zaid Patel.
The Cape side did pull a goal back, but Usuthu scored a fourth through Goodman Dlamini thanks to Patel’s supply
AmaZulu remain in position 8, just one point behind Milano United.
The next game for Usuthu is away to Moroka Swallows on January 23.
