Darian Wilken gives verdict on AmaZulu Engen KOC performance

Usuthu Coach, Darian Wilken has elected to deduce some points to improve on with his AmaZulu squad after they were knocked out in the quarter finals at this year’s Engen Knockout Challenge on 16 July.

“The tournament result did not go our way, but I am unbelievably proud of the way the boys represented themselves, our technical team and the great club,” said the coach.

In the group stages AmaZulu beat Induna Academy 5-0, and then followed a 3-1 win against Brazil Academy. The final group match was a 1-2 victory over Magabheni Stars.

“We fought from day one to the final minute. The boys started extremely well, topping their group with 9 points.”

“We then went into the quarter final and were unable to convert our chances against Umqhele High in the 25 minute halves with a missed penalty in the first half adding to our frustrations. We then lost on penalties 3-1.”

“The final day saw us find our missing scoring boots from the Umqhele match winning our first knockout game 7-0 vs Molweni (Warriors) and then beating Royal Eagles 2-0 in a dominant display in the final game of the tournament.”

“Overall we walk away from this year’s tournament with lessons learned, I’m extremely happy with the brand of football that we showed,” said Wilken.

The Coach thanked Engen, the LOC for affording the Usuthu the opportunity to develop players at the highest level.
