AmaZulu coach Steve Barker says that he cannot fault the players for their effort even though the club suffered relegation from the Absa Premiership.
Barker says the players put in a great effort in the second half of the season and believes there was a great improvement in their performance.
“I cannot really blame the players; they fought hard to get themselves towards the game. There were some good moments, we were consistent and I must say that I am proud of the attitude of the players that I saw since I took over. We had to build a culture of belief and made sure that we are a strong team to beat,” said Barker.
He said he has to stand up and get back to his principles as a coach and start planning ahead.
“As a coach I am still disappointed, but I will get over it soon and start planning and look at my principles. I believe that AmaZulu are a good side and doesn’t deserve what happened to them. We need to sit down with the management and see how best we work on this situation,” said Barker.
Maritzburg United coach Steve Komphela also commended Barker for the good fight he put up for AmaZulu.
“I must say that Barker really did a great job with AmaZulu. They gave us a good fight, unfortunately they started a bit late,” said Komphela after the final match of the season, which saw United defeat Usuthu 2-1.Share
