Barker at the Provincial U19 tournament

Whilst most fathers were being spoilt, AmaZulu head coach Steve Barker was attending an Under 19 Provincial tournament that was held at the Cato Manor grounds in Durban over the weekend.

The action took place at the Cato Manor Sports Ground where the KZN Provincial Government, eThekwini Municipality, South African Football Association and Hoy Park Management hosted the U19 Provincial Selection Tournament.

Participating teams included; theKZN Academy XI, EThekwini, ILembe, UMgungundlovu, UThungulu, UThukela, UMkhanyakude, Ugu, Harry Gwala and UMzinyathi Regions.

KZN Academy XI were overall winners for the tournament when they beat UThungulu 1-0 during a nail-biting final match.

Selectors, who skillfully watched various aspects of the players’ technique during the tournament, will now deliberate on who will be called back to be part of the Selection Camp scheduled for 28 June – 02 July in Durban. This is where the final squad to be part of the KZN Academy XI will be selected.

As USuthu are looking to beef their NFD squad, impressive players at this tournament might find themselves being part of the AmaZulu set up as team manager Japhet Zwane and assistant coach Ronald Moroka were amongst the people that accompanied Barker.
