The Dog on 100 Days to World Cup

March 2, 2010

Following Bafana Bafana Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira’s Media Briefing at the national team’s base yesterday morning at the Elangeni Hotel, the ‘old Dog’ conveyed his thoughts to amazulufc.net on the excitement which marked the 100 days’ countdown to the historical world show piece.

Parreira’s comments could have signalled the end of some of Bafana Bafana’s World Cup hopefuls as he begins to narrow his selection for the final squad.

However the recent re-calling and confidence shown in some players has not escaped the brows of some in the beautiful game.

“It is an exciting time in South African football; with the 100 days to the start of the World Cup in 11 June it is important to keep the momentum going as a nation.

“Carlos Parreira would know the importance of that. Durban has always been a happy hunting ground for Bafana Bafana and we hope to keep that winning streak going as we approach the critical time period before the greatest show piece on earth.

“Player selection remains a great concern yes, but it is the coach who knows the kind of team he wants. A lot of people will always feel they must have a say but in the defence of players like Teko Modise, but he doesn’t select himself. If the coach shows confidence in him the decision must be respected.

“What Parreira is doing is trying to get a new mindset and attitude from Teko. Everybody knows that a fit Teko Modise is a huge asset and I’m sure we all want to support his selection.

“Bradley Carnell on the other hand is very talented, experienced and I know him and Tsepo Masilela make good sense to compete for the left-back position as they are both superb players.”
