It was a frustrating afternoon for Neil Tovey as his side battled to overcome a determined Mpumalanga Black Aces side at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday in a game that ended 0-0.
The game started brightly enough with both sides looking to push forward, but that was overshadowed by some poor passing and complacently when players were on the ball.
With 19 minutes gone, Usuthu striker Bradley Ritson had a decent chance, but was unable to find the target with a back-posty header from a failry tight angle.
The in the 24th minute Ritson struck the woodwork with a powerful shot from just inside the box. A nice passing movement saw the AmaZulu striker find some space and with a snap shot he had Energy Murambadora scrambling across his goals.
The only other effort of the half came four minutes later when Gilbert Mushangazike forced the AmaZulu keeper into a save with a long range shot that lacked any power.
The second 45 minutes was more of the same as both teams struggled to pass the ball around often gifting possession back to their opponents.
The only chance of the second half came three minutes from time when Ayanda Dalmini tried his luck from about 20 yards out. Murambadoro, however, was on hand to punch his powerful shot away from danger.
It was a rather scrappy affair on the day with both teams looking a little lacklustre. One would think Aces would be desperate for the win regarding their 15th position on the log, but the way they played they deserve to be there.
