Top 8 still possible for AmaZulu

December 14, 2009

AmaZulu Coach Neil Tovey still believes his side has a chance to repeat last season’s feat of finishing in the top despite being humbled 3-0 at home by Mamelodi Sundowns at a rainy Moses Mabhida on Sunday.

“We tried to keep them at the back foot in the first half, but Brian Baloyi pulled off a few excellent saves.

“In the second half we just couldn’t get the ball into dangerous positions and on one or two occasions our passing wasn’t clinical, or, things just wouldn’t fall for us. Up until that stage I didn’t think Sundowns would score,” said Tovey.

Tovey also said he believed the free kick which led to the goal was a 50/50 decision.

“I don’t think 3-0 was a fair reflection of our performance. We had to ask on our keeper to make a save at an important stage and he let us down in that department,” he said of the first goal which allowed Sundowns to take the advantage.

“But we have really come a long way; the players have done well and the effort is there. They didn’t get what they deserved after the match.

“We’re not going to let the defeat get us down - we lost to a good team in the PSL,” said Tovey.

AmaZulu have an way opportunity on Wednesday to dust themselves off and get back to on course to achieving a respectful finish come end of the season.

“We just have to continue with our game, the league is very, very tight. I have set my players a goal of points that we need, but I think it is going to be lesser this year because of the tight standings in the league, but we must certainly collect points in the next couple of games,” he concluded.
