AmaZulu v Chiefs: past encounters
August 28, 2009
AmaZulu have over time met Kaizer Chiefs in a number of memorable encounters...
We managed to get in touch with yet another former AmaZulu player in Englishman Tony Jones (The skinny keeper in rainbow jersey pictured right), who played for the club in two of such matches during the 1980's.
Jones served as Usuthu's last line of defence and shares his memories about playing against 'Amakhosi', whom we meet again in an all important encounter this Sunday.

Kings Park
"I played against Chiefs for the first time at Kings Park Stadium in Durban, when Neil Tovey was still with us. I remember William 'Cool Cat' Shongwe being injured early in the game and Parry went in goal.
We won 2-0.
My wife, daughter and parents-in-law were in the crowd, and looked on in horror as I was, along with others, carried off the field above the heads of our very joyous fans. That was an amazing experience for me and a highlight I would never forget, to this day."
George Goch
"My second match against Chiefs was something else. 'Amakhosi' walloped us 4-1 at the old George Goch Stadium in Johannesburg in a cup game.
"I remember Chiefs' red hot striker Scara Thindwa scored a brace and Gary Bailey - who played for England and Manchester United, was their 'keeper. As an individual I saved a penalty from Ace 'Didi' Khuse and remember giving the clenched fist salute to our fans. (It was only 1-0 then.)
"What an incredible time, good luck to the guys on Sunday!"
Jones is now living in north west London, and is still involved in the game.
