The former Highway United player makes a comeback to a team that is committed to fighting for top honours in this coming season. Alistair might not be known to Usuthu fans but given a chance they will find him to be a lovable character.
He surprised many by doing a “Kasi dance” after scoring a penalty over the weekend against Maritzburg United.
“I am excited about being back with the main team this season. It has been an encouraging experience already and I feel part of the team.
Everyone gets along very well with each other. I feel welcome and ready to play my part this season,” said Wallis.
Neil Tovey repeated what he said at the first training session. He said Alistair was brought back in line with his new programme for the new season. After telling his players that what was achieved last season would not matter on his new plans for the season. He encouraged everyone to work hard if they want to earn their place in the team.
“We’ve had Alistair for two years now. He trained with us last season and we thought he needed more game time and he was sent to our feeder team Durban Warriors.
“Competing with Sillo (Jan) and some players at right-back he knows he will have to work extra hard.
“He is a versatile player though, I feel his fitness won’t let him down,”said Tovey.
Alistair says playing in the tough conditions in the Vodacom League has taught him how to survive physically and emotionally as a player.
Assistant Coach, Calvin Peterson was also impressed by the youngsters’ work rate. “He showed a lot of confidence on the ball on Saturday’s friendly match against Maritzburg United.
“He even stepped up to take a penalty spot kick and scored it with confidence. That reminds me of myself in my playing days,” said Peterson.
The 20 year-old’s faith in god comes as little surprise to many that know him. “I draw a lot of my strengths from Christ and I am so grateful for what he has done for me so far,” said Wallis.
