AmaZuluFC.net recently spoke to midfielder Nkosinathi Mthiyane who joined the club ahead of the 2013/14 season from Thanda Royal Zulu.
The left winger has enjoyed a positive start in his debut season in the elite league – he provided the assist for Bongani Ndulula’s goal during the 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows and scored his first goal for the club during the 1-1 draw against Bidvest Wits.
AmaZuluFC.net: After your impressive performances in the NFD last season a number of teams in the Absa Premiership were after your services – what made you decide to join AmaZulu?
Nkosinathi Mthiyane: It’s true that there were other teams who were interested in me but I decided to join AmaZulu because I’ve played for the team as a youngster. I know a lot about the team and I think this is the best place for me to make the step up to the top division.
AmaZuluFC.net: What are you hoping to achieve in your first season with the club?
NM: Personally, I want to command a regular place in the starting lineup and I would be happy to see the team finishing comfortably in the top eight and winning silverware. We have a capable squad and I believe we can achieve this if we play to our potential.
AmaZuluFC.net: The team signed a lot of new players and there is tight competition within the squad – what is your take on this?
NM: Competition is tough but that is a positive thing because it pushes me to work harder. I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by experienced players who have won titles and I’m not afraid to ask them to advice; I believe this will help me to be successful.
AmaZuluFC.net: What can you tell us about the coach Craig Rosslee and the rest of the technical team since you joined the team for preseason training?
NM: I’m happy with the technical team and the professionalism within the club. The coaches have helped me to improve my game; they always give me feedback and they tell me what I need to work on.
AmaZuluFC.net: Speaking of improvement – what would you say are your strengths and what do you feel you still need to improve on?
NM: My biggest strength is my speed and the fact that I am always looking to get into goal scoring positions. In football you never stop learning so I still have to improve the accuracy of my crosses and tracking back to do my defensive duties.
AmaZuluFC.net: You scored 14 goals for your former team last season – are you feeling any pressure to do something similar for Usuthu?
NM: The position that I play in requires me to create and score goals for the team and that doesn’t bring any added pressure, it’s part of the job. The most important thing is for the team to win, it doesn’t really matter if I’m the one who’s scoring or any of my teammates.
AmaZuluFC.net: What is your message to the AmaZulu supporters?
NM: I’d like to tell the fans that we are motivated by the way we have started the season and we want to maintain this good form. We really appreciate their support and we want to give them a lot to smile about this season.
Nickname: I don’t really have one right now – everyone calls me “Mthiyane”.
Music: Mainly gospel music.
TV: I watch a lot of football including Spanish and German leagues.Share
