AmaZulu FC will welcome Ajax Cape Town in an Absa Premiership match at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday, 3 April 2018.
Usuthu are undefeated against the Urban Warriors in their last six Absa Premiership encounters.
We look at the last six league matches between AmaZulu and Ajax:
30 March 2013 – Ajax 0-0 AmaZulu
The Urban Warriors had to settle for a point from a 0-0 league draw with Usuthu at a cold and windy Cape Town Stadium on a Friday night.
The hosts dominated the match, but they struggled to penetrate the Usuthu defence which was marshalled by AmaZulu centre-back Carlington Nyamdombo.
The Zimbawean defender deservedly walked away with the man-of-the-match award at the end of the encounter.
01 September 2013 – Ajax 1-2 AmaZulu
Ajax suffered their first defeat of the 2013/14 Absa Premiership season when they lost 2-1 to AmaZulu at Cape Town Stadium on a Sunday afternoon.
The visitors opened the scoring when Ajax defender Cecil Lolo netted an own goal to make it 1-0 to Usuthu 11 minutes into the game. Nyamdombo then doubled AmaZulu’s three minutes into the second-half.
Nathan Paulse managed to grab a late goal for the Urban Warriors in the 90th minute, but it proved to be a consolation goal as AmaZulu held on to their slender lead and they won 2-1.
04 February 2014 – AmaZulu 1-0 Ajax
Usuthu edged out the Urban Warriors in an evenly matched Absa Premiership encounter which could have gone either way at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on a Tuesday night.
Ajax goalkeeper Anssi Jaakkola and his AmaZulu counterpart Philani Zikalala both produced good saves in the first-half to ensure that the score was 0-0 at the interval.
However, Goodman Dlamini proved to be the hero for AmaZulu as he grabbed a late winning goal in the 87th minute when he beat Finnish shot-stopper Jaakkola to hand Usuthu a 1-0 victory.
10 August 2014 – AmaZulu 0-0 Ajax
Usuthu were frustrated by a stubborn Urban Warriors side in their opening game of the 2014/15 Absa Premiership season which was played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on a Sunday afternoon.
The hosts created goalscoring opportunities throughout the match, but Philani Shange, Bongi Macala and Ruzaigh Gamildien all were guilty of missing chances.
Ajax defender Nazeer Alli was red carded in the 88th minute for a late challenge on Tshepo Liphoko, but the visitors contained AmaZulu in the dying minutes of the match, and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
16 December 2014 – Ajax 1-1 AmaZulu
A late goal denied AmaZulu maximum points in an Absa Premiership encounter which was played at the Cape Town Stadium on a Tuesday night.
Ayanda Dlamini thought he had snatched a late winning goal for Usuthu when he scored in the 85th minute – pouncing on a loose ball to score from close range.
However, Franklin Cale had other ideas as the winger beat AmaZulu goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe in stoppage time to ensure that the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.
25 November 2017 – Ajax 2-2 AmaZulu
AmaZulu had to fight back to hold Ajax in a pulsating Absa Premiership match which produced four goals at the Athlone Stadium on a Saturday night.
The home side broke the deadlock through Masilake Phohlongo seven minutes into the second-half and Tashreeq Morris made it 2-0 to Ajax just before the hour-mark.
However, Usuthu launched a memorable comeback in the closing stages of the game as Mhlengi Cele pulled one back in the 90th minute.
Mabhuti Khenyeza then snatched the equalizing goal in stoppage-time and ultimately, the action-packed encounter ended in a 2-2 stalemate on the night.Share
