AmaZulu beat University of Pretoria 2-1 after the hosts had taken an early lead in their Absa Premiership encounter on Wednesday night at the Tuks Stadium.
It was Bongi Ntuli’s brace in the second half that gave Usuthu the three crucial points which saw them shifting to the playoff spot on the PSL log.
Bornwell Mwape took the first chance for Usuthu but his header missed the target.
In the eight minute of the match, Tuks were awarded a penalty but Energy Murambadoro made a good save, denying Mnyamane the goal.
Goodman Dlamini came close to finding a goal for Usuthu but his left footed shot went wide.
In the 19th minute Van Heerden’s set piece was denied by the woodwork to almost give Usuthu the lead.
In the 28th minute Tebogo Monyai gave Tuks the lead from Nyondo’s free kick.
Marc Van Heerden also came close to finding a goal for AmaZulu via a set piece but Tuks goalkeeper Arubi managed to tip it away in the 35th minute.
This saw both teams going to half time break with Tuks leading by 1-0.
In the second half, just a minute after the whistle, Bongi Ntuli gave AmaZulu an equalizer with a left-footed finish from Mwedihanga’s assist.
Sadate Ouro-Akoriko also tried to search for a goal but his header went over the crossbar.
In the 64th minute Ntuli came back to score a brace and gave Usuthu a 2-1 lead with a right-footed finish.
In the 73rd minute Willem Mwedihanga made a crucial clearance, denying Tuks an equalizer.
In the last four minutes of the match Matsi pulled a shot but it went wide. This resulted in AmaZulu walking away with the full three points.
