AmaZulu have moved up to third place on the National First Division log after claiming a 3-1 away win over Royal Eagles on Wednesday afternoon.
The KwaZulu-Natal derby held at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg saw Usuthu take a major step toward promotion with a third straight victory, while Eagles drop to fifth place.
AmaZulu started like a house on fire and claimed the lead as early as the fourth minute through Roggert Nyundu, who powered home a header to put the visitors in control.
Eagles fought back to ensure the game went to half time locked at 1-1, but Usuthu showed their class in the second half.
In the 67th minute another header, this time from Ovidy Karuru, put AmaZulu back in front.
Four minutes later Augustine Ramphele made it 3-1 to Usuthu with a thunderous strike, securing a vital victory for Joey Antipas’ side.
The result sees AmaZulu up to third place on the log on 38 points – 11 adrift of leaders Thanda Royal Zulu and just two behind second-placed Black Leopards.
With six rounds of the 2016/17 season remaining, AmaZulu are right in the mix as far as promotion to the top flight is concerned.Share
