AmaZulu suffer narrow defeat to Wits

Bidvest Wits beat AmaZulu FC 3-2 in an Absa Premiership match at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

As a result, Clever Boys climbed up to 10th spot on the league table, while Usuthu moved down to 11th place.

Wits dominated the match from the start, but they were denied by AmaZulu goalkeeper Siyabonga Mbatha.

The in-form shot-stopper denied the Clever Boys striker Lehlohonolo Majoro twice in the early stages of the game.

Usuthu then pressed the hosts and they managed to break the deadlock through Michael Morton.

The midfielder scored with a right-footed shot in the 32nd minute and AmaZulu were leading 1-0 at the interval.

The hosts were awarded a penalty a few minutes into the game, but Reeve Frosler was denied by the in-form Mbatha from the penalty spot.

However, Wits did equalize through Daine Klate in the 63rd minute following a good move by the hosts.

The Clever Boys pushed for more goals in the closing stages of the game and they made it 2-1 in the 83rd minute through Eleazar Rodgers.

It was soon 3-1 to Wits in the 90th minute when Ben Motshwari beat Mbatha with a good finish, but Tapelo Nyongo grabbed a late goal for Usuthu in stoppage time.

Ultimately, the game ended in a 3-2 win in favour of Wits, who managed to contain AmaZulu in the closing stages of the game.
