The club’s build up to the season has come and gone with just a couple of days left to AmaZulu’s first match of the 2011/12 season the club held It’s press conference for the new season at the Suncoast, Durban.
Head coach Manqoba Mngqithi accompanied by General Manager Peter O’Connor and Director Graham O’Connor formally introduced the new signings in the unveiling of the club’s plans for the season.
The coach has set his sights on a top 8 eight finish for the 79 year old club this season, a finish which he says is achievable.
“Out of all the friendly matches that we have played I think we’ve only lost two, one was in the final of the Premier’s Cup against Golden Arrows on penalties. The other loss was when we lost to an Australian team, Perth Glory which we played on Saturday before we went to play in Ladysmith.
We really had some very good friendly matches that are very encouraging in going forward.
Within the pre-season I think our Mayoral cup in Ladysmith was a huge success and our players really showed their quality as much as it is still a team in progress. The quality of football has been really impressive on my side but I’m sure we still have to work much harder,” said Mngqithi.
The first test for new signings Bonginkosi Nxumalo, Dumisani Zwane, Donovan Thompson, Ntuthuko Dlamini, Moses Chavula, Philani Zikalala and new captain Tapuwa Kapini will be in ‘Usuthu’s first fixture away to Sundowns on 14th August.
Third captain Ayanda Dlamini who stood in place of Kapini who is off to do national duty in Zimbabwe’s national team is confidence the KZN club will have a smooth start.
“We were very lucky this time around that we don’t have too many injuries before the big match. Our confidence has been goodShare
