AmaZulu’s hard fought 1-1 draw against 2009/11 Nedbank Cup champions Bidvest Wits on the weekend has awakened the sleeping giant in ‘Usuthu’ going into the 2010/11 campaign, according to AmaZulu PRO Philani Mabaso.
“Looking at our league form going into the first round it will be encouraging to the way the players have carried themselves.
“We’ve got a group of youngsters in our team who’ve really done well and with nine matches played so far without a loss that will help in their confidence,” said Mabaso.
Despite many of the Durban side’s league points having been draws Mabaso says that the resilience coupled with clever tactics in cup matches could well just swing in “Usuthu’s” advantage.
“The fact that we were in final last season will be good enough motivation for us and what better way to better that than going onto win this year’s final.
If we take it game by game nothing can stop us. I believe we’ve got the right coach, technical team and players,” Mabaso said.
Good news to the ‘Usuthu’ faithful is the return of leftback sensation Marc van Heerden who showed glimpses of good form when he came on the 74th minute against Wits on Saturday. Tangeni Shipahu was another returnee following a hamstring injury that kept him out of four matches.
