AmaZulu will be out to claim their first Absa Premiership win of the season when they tackle Cape Town City at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Tuesday 1 October 2019, kick-off at 19h30 CAT.
AmaZulu have gone seven league games without a victory, and their last outing was a 1-0 loss away to SuperSport United on Saturday, September 28. Usuthu have recorded one draw and two defeats in their three home matches thus far in the league campaign.
New coach Jozef Vukusic has taken charge of two games thus far and is looking for more consistency in performance, particularly in regards to their different mentalities at home and away.
“I was a little bit surprised at the difference between our home game [against Kaizer Chiefs on September 24] and this game here, away. Mentally, there was a big difference there. It’s not an easy opponent [SuperSport] but they didn’t play so, so well that we couldn’t challenge more,” explained Vukusic.
He added, “It’s a lot of work [turning AmaZulu’s season around] but for that I came here. It’s a nice challenge, so we will fight. We will fight.”
City played to a fifth draw from their seven league matches this season when they held Orlando Pirates 3-3 in Soweto on Saturday, September 28. Kermit Erasmus continued his excellent form with another goal, but the Citizens will be disappointed at ceding a two-goal lead in the game.
In head-to-head stats, AmaZulu and City have met in four previous top-flight league matches. Both the Citizens and Usuthu have claimed two wins apiece. The Durban side has won both of their home matches in the sequence.
In the team’ league meetings last season, City recorded an emphatic 3-0 home win at the Cape Town Stadium in October 2018, but AmaZulu responded with a 1-0 home win in the return game at King Zwelithini Stadium in February 2019.
AmaZulu’s line-up from their 1-0 loss to SuperSport on September 28: Mbatha, Sikhakhane, T. Gumede, Xoki, M. Gumede, Darpoh, Sithebe (Chawapiwa 57’), Morton, Maduna (Ncobeni 62’), Karuru, Ntuli (Cele 69’).
