AmaZulu went down 1-0 against Stellenbosch FC after missing two penalty kicks in a National First Division match at the Princess Magogo stadium on Sunday.
Despite AmaZulu being the better team for the majority of the match, a goal from Junaid Sait was the difference on the day.
But not before both Siyabonga Nomvethe and Nkanyiso Zungu missed penalty kicks for Usuthu.
The first opening came in the second minute for AmaZulu when Lungelo Dlamini let fly from the edge of the box, but his effort was well-saved by Edward More.
In the 27th minute Nomvethe came close to scoring for Usuthu when a well-worked free-kick saw him in space inside the box, but he shot inches wide from close range.
Ten minutes later AmaZulu were afforded a great chance to take the lead when Sibusiso Magaqa was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot, but Nomvethe failed to convert.
The half ended 0-0.
Stellenbosch were a much better side in the second half and took the lead on the hour mark courtesy of a strike from Junaid Sait, 1-0.
AmaZulu tried to find their way back into the game and came close to equalising in the 66th minute when a shot from substitute Zaakir Williams shaved the wrong side of the post.
In the 82nd minute Usuthu were handed their second penalty of the match after a handball inside the box, but again they failed to cover from the spot as Nkanyiso Zungu saw his penalty-kick saved.
In the end Stellenbosch walked away with a rather fortunate 1-0 win.Share
