AmaZulu and Ajax Cape Town earned a point each when they played to a 0-0 draw in an Absa Premiership encounter at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sundayafternoon.
Roger De Sa’s side finished the match with one man less after captain Nazeer Allie received his marching orders late in the game, but his side managed to hold on for the draw.
Both sides had half-chances inside the opening ten minutes with Tashreeq Morris directing a weak header towards Tapuwa Kapini in the fifth minute, while Philani Shange saw his effort blocked by Cecil Lolo five minutes later.
Usuthu were the dominant side during the middle part of the half with Shange gaining some ground on the right flank, but they were unable to turn their possession to clear chances.
Ajax almost took the lead against the run of play in the 32nd minute as Thabiso Nkoana was offered room to shoot on the edge of the penalty area but his shot went just wide of the upright.
The home side also had an opportunity to open the scoring in the 39th minute as Macala collected a pass from Shange on the right side of the box before drilling an effort against the sidenetting.
The chances were few and far between in the second half but Ruzaigh Gamildien should have done better in the 71st minute when a cross from Macala fell for him at the far post, but he rushed his header over the crossbar.
Both sides had chances to grab maximum points late in the game but both Keagan Dolly and Granwald Scott fired over the crossbar with less than ten minutes to play, while Gamildien was denied by a good save from Anssi Jaakkola in added time.
