Mamelodi Sundowns remain rooted at the bottom of the Absa Premiership log standings after being held to a 1-1 draw by AmaZulu at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Wednesday night.
The Brazilians have only won one game all season long and this result is for sure to pile enormous amounts of pressure on the shoulders of head coach Johan Neeskens and his under-performing players.
AmaZulu scored from the boot of Andile Khumalo who took advantage of sloppy defending by Sundowns in the 77th minute.
But, Anthony Laffor salvaged this precious point for the Brazilians four minutes from time pouncing from close range after the AmaZulu defence failed to clear he danger.
AmaZulu created the first notable attack of the game through Andile Khumalo in 11th minute who forced a Sundowns ‘keeper Wayne Sandilands to tip his effort over the cross-bar after evading attention from Tebogo Langerman in the box.
In the 18th minute, Sundowns striker Eleazar Rodgers was released by Teko Modise but the lanky striker’s shot on his weaker left foot was too tame to trouble diving AmaZulu ‘keeper Philani Zikalala.
In the 24th minute, AmaZulu were once again in the danger of area of Sundowns when Ayanda Dlamini tormented Doctor Mampuru with skill and pace but Clayton Daniels recovered in time to clear the ball for safety.
In the 25th minute, Dlamini was once again guilty of wasting a good opportunity when he rifled his shot over the cross-bar inside the box when composure seemed the better option to give his side the lead.
Three minutes from the break, Sundowns nearly got lucky when Tamsanqa Teyise’s desperate clearance in the box ricocheted off the body of Modise and nearly beat his own keeper.
Five minutes after restart, Zikalala, in goal for AmaZulu, was called into action by Anthony Laffor who drilled a curling shot.
The two teams had their moments on the attack but their attackers were guilty on numerous occasions for wasting inviting opportunities.
The main culprit for AmaZulu was Ayanda Dlamini while Rodgers, Elias Pelembe and Laffor let Usuthu off the hook a few times during the game from promising positons.
