AmaZulu proved to be mentality fit as they clinched a 2-1 victory over Highlands on Saturday at the Princess Magogo Stadium after having come back from a goal behind.
AmaZulu dominated the match from word go. As early as the second minute, Marc Van Heerden almost got his name in the score sheet but his set piece was tipped away by former club goalkeeper Tapuwa Kapini.
In the 14th minute Highlands also tried to come back into the match but didn’t really create much problems for Energy Murambadoro.
In the 33rd minute there was a good display of football by AmaZulu, attacking towards the goal posts, but Shitembi’s final shot missed the target.
Two minutes later Zungu gave the visitors’ defence hard time with his skillful touches inside the park.
He also came close into finding the back of the net but his shot was cleared away.
The last chance for Usuthu in the first half fell to Dlamini, who couldn’t get a full touch on a cross that had came from Thabo Moloi.
In the second half the visitors looked more dangerous. Marc Van Heerden made a spectacular clearance, preventing Usuthu from going behind.
Highlands continued to push for a goal and eventually they got their break as Mthobiso Mvala found the back of the net in the 61st minute.
Two minutes later Sandile Khwela headed an own goal for Highlands, giving AmaZulu an equalizer in the 63rd minute.
In the 74th minute Zungu made a great turn inside the box but his strike went wide.
In the 83rd minute Van Heerden gave AmaZulu the lead with a ground shot from a direct free kick that was caused by Kapini.
