AmaZulu and Thanda to renew their rivalry

National First Division (NFD) sides AmaZulu and Thanda Royal Zulu are set to square off in the 2016 Premiers Cup encounter this Saturday.

The two KwaZulu-Natal rivals will face each other in the second quarter-final encounter at the Umhlathuze Sports Complex and kick-off is at 1h30pm.

During the 2015 Premiers Cup, Thanda and AmaZulu locked horns in the semi-finals of the pre-season tournament.

The exciting encounter ended in a 3-3 stalemate and Amabhubesi emerged 4-2 winners on penalties.

We take a look at the two most recent competitive clashes between the KwaZulu-Natal clubs, AmaZulu and Thanda.

The two sides faced each other in the NFD first round clash in Richards Bay and they drew 0-0 in August 2015.

The next league meeting between Usuthu and Amabhubesi took place in the city of Durban.

Thanda defeated AmaZulu 2-1 with Muhammed Zaid Patel netted the latter’s consolation goal in the first-half.

The winner between AmaZulu and Thanda on Saturday will to take on Maritzburg United in the semi-final clash on Sunday.
