AmaZulu, a club that has been in existence since 1932, has only recently prided its self with developing and producing its own players.
As the 2009/2010 season draws to the end Allastair Wallis, a 21 year old right back will have completed his first season with the big boys after graduating from AmaZulu feeder team, Durban Warriors to the first team.
Though he is yet to break into Neil Tovey’s starting line-up Wallis is an inspiration to many other hopefuls playing in the lower age divisions.
AmaZulu are a club with a big tradition with well over 75 years of existence and a natural following within and outside the Kwa-Zulu Natal region - the club is very much serious about planting talent in line with this vision.
In the upcoming trials at a venue to be confirmed in January hopeful players will be tested whether they have the ability to carry the torch of players like Joel Faya and Joe Mlaba.
According to the main objectives set by the development team of coaches and management, players need to play hard but fairly and not play to win at all costs and utilizing devious methods.
“We cannot stress more the fact that parents need to ensure that their children are placed in their correct age groups. We normally require players to spend at least 2 years under a particular age group, so for Under-13 we need to take players that are 11 and 12 years old preferably,” said Thami ‘TV’ Ngubane.
Ngubane says the selection process for Durban Warriors is slightly different from those of Under-13, 15 and 17 sides.
“Since the Vodacom League is still being played, players for Durban Warriors have been hand picked by the coaches and some have been promoted from AmaZulu. They require players that are matured enough to survive the conditions in the stream because Durban Warriors is the last step between the AmaZulu first team,” said Ngubane.
The AmaZulu Development crew was joined by Swiss man Roger Palgren, who will be working as Director of Sports with Thami Ngubane, Head of Development and Clive Barker who is Director of Coaching.

Venue: George Campbell High School-North Beach opposite the Durban Ice Rink. All interested participants are advised to bring their Identity Documents and birth certificates, Under-13 players must be accompanied by their parents or guardians with birth certificates.
