The AmaZulu Under 17 side played their hearts out in the first half of a Durban Central League Football Association match to beat FC Cherions on a muddy Jimmy Bellons pitch at Westville on Sunday afternoon.

First half goals by Johnie Mabhena, Trevor Madondo and Mbuso Shabangu ensured the lads took home the trophy.

The opposition came hard at Usuthu in the second half and managed to put pressure on - in the end pulling two goals back.

But AmaZulu held on for the 3-2 win - finishing number 1 in the league. They now wait to play other winners in other streams for the overall winner.

Their Under 15 counterparts, playing in ground two of the same venue, were unluckily beaten by Newland United FC by the same 3-2 margin. Bernard Thipa and Banele Mgobhozi’s goals could not secure them the trophy.
