Usuthu midfield ‘General’, Thamsanqa Sangweni has vowed to turn up the heat this Saturday at the heart of play as the Durban side welcome 5th placed Santos in a tussle for points at Moses Mabhida Stadium at 15h00.
With the Capetonians ferrying into Durban with 23 points and much anxiety to collect more points to avoid the much dreaded play offs the 23 year old man believes they will pose the biggest threat to their top eight hopes.
“Since we drew on Wednesday against Jomo Cosmos it’s obvious that we need to work harder to continue in our quest to strive for more points to qualify for the top eight.
"It won’t be an easy game at all, we can’t take them lightly just because we’ve already beaten them twice before,” said Sangweni.
The Empangeni born man has been the coach’s lead man in midfield with teammates Ramson Zhuwawo and Bongani Mbele out due to illness and injury. However this Saturday head coach, Roger Palmgren will have a hard time picking his squad as the duo are beckoning on the door after weeks away from illness and injury.
“It’s all about the team work at the moment and making sure that we’re focused on these last matches. The other stuff can wait,” he quipped.
General scored what was a contender for goal of the season against Santos at Athlone Stadium in the first round when he blasted in a scorcher of a free kick in the match which ended 2-1 in AmaZulu’s favour in December.
Santos have a shaky away record with just one win in 14 matches while AmaZulu have recorded four wins at home in 14 matches. In 26 league matches played from 1991 AmaZulu have won 11 compared to Santos’ six. There have been nine draws.
