We’re Going to Come Right: Madida

AmaZulufc.net picked the brain of Usuthu assistant coach Fani Madida on the KZN club’s failure to hit the ground running in their ABSA Premiership second round campaign.

Despite coming from the 2-1 away loss against Free State Stars this past weekend the former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker says there is no need to press the panic buttons yet.

“There are other games you lose and others you win. This time around it started on the first two matches of our second round. We were unlucky against Sundowns.

We were also unlucky against Free State Stars; they could have murdered us in the first half. But we came back, hit the up-right - we scored but unfortunately we couldn’t come back,” said Madida.

The boys in green and white have managed just 14 goals in the 17 matches played thus far, with just one goal in the second round. The 45 year old coach who also once held a record for the most goals scored (34 goals) in a season for Chiefs in the 1994 season says lady luck will soon be on their KZN side’s favour.

Usuthu has conceded 13 goals in the league which has been an improvement from last season’s standards.

“It’s just the goals that haven’t come yet because we do get opportunities. We’re not scoring enough goals yes, it’s a challenge but I will not call it a crisis.

The reason is not because the defence has improved, and now the attacking has been compromised - sometimes the best form of defence is attack. We’re going to come right this weekend against Supersport,” he added.

The technical team this week has been hard at work, in rectifying the mistakes.

“This time once again playing away from home - there is always a mental side of it. We need to think differently and the bottom line is that we should not succumb to Supersport United.

“We have to take the game to them, they are a team that we can beat. There is no impossible, if we think like that we might as well all stay home and sell sushi,” said the Newcastle born man.
