While AmaZulu start getting into rhythm with their pre-season training, young Thamsanqa Sangweni will be expected to again fly the flag in South Africa’s first leg of the All Africa Games against Zimbabwe on Saturday at the Rand Stadium.
“So far things have been going okay. I feel I’ve gained a lot from just being around other players from different clubs,” Sangweni told AmaZulufc.net after a day’s long programme with Amagluglug.
‘The General’ as he is known was instrumental in shaping the SA U23 side’s midfield in their win against Benin this past Sunday.
This time it appears coach Shakes Mashaba’s team will be tested against ‘The Highlanders’ who come into the match still high over last month’s 4-1 win against Botswana. ‘Usuthu’ goalie Nhlanhla Khuzwayo won’t be part the match again as he is still nursing an injury on his right hand.
On the other hand AmaZulu training programme is to start picking up steam as senior players report to training this week.
With head coach Manqoba Mngqithi away for a week in his SAFA Coaching Course for a week, the troops are with the capable hands of assistants Fani Madida and Joel Faya.
“Training has been going ahead as per schedule players are coming back as we’ve expected them to,” said Team Manager James Dlamini.
This week ‘Usuthu’ has been blending in-field training with gym work. On Saturday AmaZulu will play a friendly match with SAB Castle League side Royal Coastal at Moses Mabhida Stadium Outer Fields. AmaZulu recently beat Max’s Lifestyle FC 5-0 in a friendly match.
